WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?

Chiropractic is the science, philosophy, and art of detecting and correcting vertebral subluxations to restore normal nervous system function and increase a person’s potential for life and health.

THE SCIENCE

The nervous system (brain, spinal cord and nerves) controls every cell, tissue, and organ in the body. The brain constantly receives information from every part of the body regarding conditions both within the body and the environment. It processes this information and directs a coordinated response that allows your body to adapt and react in the best way possible. All of this information travels by way of the spinal cord and all body functions and systems are coordinated in this way. Problems in communication therefore result in problems with normal body function.

Vertebral subluxation is the interference in this communication and the body’s resulting compensation. It involves a combination of interrelated changes to nerve, bone, muscle, soft tissue, and body chemistry that occurs both locally at the spine and systemically throughout your body. Depending on severity and chronicity, subluxation can have a mild, moderate or severe effect on function.

Subluxation can be caused by any overload of emotional, chemical, or physical stress beyond what the body is able to fully adapt to. As subluxation accumulates in the spine, your body’s ability to recover from stress decreases.

THE PHILOSOPHY

God designed your body with an innate ability to heal and regulate. Subluxation impairs this inborn ability and results in decreased performance in daily life.

THE ART

Chiropractors examine the vertebrae in the spine and assess various neural reflexes to find subluxation. If subluxation is found, the chiropractor will use his/her hands or an instrument to apply a gentle and specific force, speed, and torque to your spine, promoting proper vertebral position, movement and function. This is a chiropractic adjustment. Adjustments work with the body to enhance adaptation and healing, resulting in a wide range of improvements in everyday life.
